No matter if you choose to drive or walk into progreso here are a few tips.  We recommend this site for specific information on stores, dentists, pharmacies, restaurants and general information about Nuevo Progreso
Walking Across
1. After passing through the turnstiles you will find a Duty Free Shop immediately on your right and still within the US.  You can purchase perfume. watches, liquor cigarettes and more here.  These items must be taken into Mexico to qualify as duty free.  Recommended Place!
2. Purchase one of the large mesh shopping bags with handles immediately after arriving.  (about $2.00)   You will be glad you did.
3. Visit the El Disco Store.  This is a huge store at the first intersection in Progreso.  The bag you just purchased will come in handy here.
4. Dine at Arturo's for a real treat.  Try one of their famous margaritas!
5. Shop the Canada Store which is 2 blocks in on the right.  See the famous planter statue in the back corner of the store.
6. Wear comfortable shoes and clothing. You will walk allot.
Drive Across
1. Your first thought after crossing will most likely be "What have I gotten into!" after seeing the crowd and the narrow streets.
2. Recommend you go one block and park at Arturo's parking lot.  You will receive a validation ticket that will be signed with a meal or drinks in the restaurant.  Be sure to tip the attendant
3. There is parking on the streets.  Someone will flag you down and park you.  Tip them.  Parking lots at available on the side streets on either side of the main street.
4. Often the trip out is very crowded and can consume some time.  Consider the toll road south of town to return home.
General Tips
1. Do not give the children money.  This keeps them out of school.
2. Tip just as you would for services rendered as you would in the USA
3. You are the guest.  Be courteous.
4. Pay attention to your cellular service.  Some carriers work well while others default to Mexico's services where international calling rates apply.
5. Stay together and have meeting points in case you get separated.  Progreso can get very crowded.  It has a carnival atmosphere.
6. Declare everything you purchased when clearing customs.
