Return Trip
Those of you that drive across may wish to take an alternate return route.  This is a good one!
1. Follow the main road in Progreso south out of town (2 miles) where you will find a modern toll station (Mexico HWY 40). Pay your toll (less than $2) and travel east on a great road. The speed limit is 110 kph (about 65 mph) and traffic is very light.  You will be on this toll road for about 20 miles
2. At the major intersection of HWY 40 and (HWY 2 to Valle Hermosa and Cudad Victoria) exit take the "Fronteria" (Border) exit and go north to the international border crossing at Los Indios.
3 After clearing customs you will be at US 281 again where you can backtrack the route to South Padre Island.
